The latest update to the YouTube iOS app adds a new gesture to the video player to quickly switch between videos. Next time you are watching a video on your iPhone, you can swipe left to go to the next suggested video, while swiping right will take you back to your previously watched video. The gestures will work in both portrait and landscape mode. There’s also a sneak peek feature in which you can partially swipe to the left/right to get a sneak peek of the next/previous video. The current video you were watching will continue playing as well. There’s a new way to navigate between YouTube videos on iOS – you can now swipe to the next or previous video. Tidal, one of the other streaming services out there, ran afoul of some troubling reports regarding its streaming numbers. Dagens Næringsliv is reporting on Monday that the Norwegian authorities are currently investigating Tidal over its allegedly fraudulent streaming numbers. Økokrim is Norway’s National Authority for Investigation, and apparently Tidal’s streaming numbers caught the agency’s attention after there were reports that 320 million streams of Beyoncé’s album Lemonade and Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo didn’t happen at all. That report surfaced last May — around the same time it was reported that Tidal was also months behind its royalty payments to some record labels. This discovery, if true, of fraudulent streams means that Tidal would be artificially inflating royalty payments to some artists. The Qualcomm vs. Apple battle has revealed some interesting tidbits about the business practices of both companies. Qualcomm paid Apple $1 billion as an “incentive payment” in 2011 as a part of a 3-year agreement to exclusively supply modem for iPhones.  Qualcomm’s CEO Steve Mollenkopf revealed this incentive payment detail during his testimony on Friday. He said the payment was made to ease the technical cost for Apple to switch from Infineon baseband to those from Qualcomm. While Qualcomm is known to make such payments to other companies as well, the figure of $1 billion is extremely high and unheard of previously. And since Apple could not commit to the number of chips it would buy from Qualcomm, the latter was forced to pursue an exclusivity agreement with it. Ultimately, Apple and Qualcomm signed an exclusive deal for a three-year period and if Apple ended up sourcing baseband from any other supplier during this period, it would lose out on the rebate. If you are a heavy WhatsApp user, there are two scams going on currently that you should be aware of. The first one is ‘WhatsApp Gold,’ an old scam which is recirculating again. You might receive a message from an unknown number or from your friend or family warning you not to open a video called Martinelli which will be launched in WhatsApp tomorrow.  The message claims that the said video will install a virus in your phone and you should avoid updating to WhatsApp Gold. This is obviously a hoax message and you should avoid it. This was an old scam which seems to be recirculating again. It is always recommended that you only update WhatsApp from the iOS App Store or Google Play if you use an Android device. This is doing the rounds again. Apple decided that 2019 was going to start off with a bang as the company announced that AirPlay 2 support was landing on several different smart TVs from different brands. So far up to this point, Samsung kicked things off in announcing AirPlay 2 support for its smart TV lineup. Soon after that, we heard that Vizio was doing the same thing , followed by Sony and LG announcing support . Samsung is reportedly looking to unveil the Galaxy S10 and its foldable phone on February 20 at an Unpacked event to be held simultaneously in San Francisco and London. If true, this means the company will not be waiting for MWC 2019 to unveil its flagship smartphone for the year.  Samsung has usually unveiled its flagship Galaxy S handset at MWC. Only on a few rare occasions has the company unveiled the handset at a separate Unpacked event. This time around, the Korean company seems to have decided to unveil the Galaxy S10 ahead of MWC 2019. While Mobile World Congress 2019 is scheduled to take place from February 25-28 in Barcelona, Samsung is planning on unveiling the handset on February 20 itself. Samsung has confirmed via its official social media platforms that it will indeed be launching the Galaxy S10 at an Unpacked event on February 20 in San Francisco. While not mentioned in the invite, Samsung is also expected to unveil its foldable phone at the event. The Galaxy Unpacked event will start from 11 a.m. PT on February 20 and just like always, Samsung will be live streaming the event for fanboys and interested folks to follow. In his interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer for Mad Money , Tim Cook said that Apple has not been involved in any “settlement discussions” with Qualcomm since Q3 of 2018. He also shot down reports and statements from Qualcomm of both companies working together on finding a resolution. Qualcomm’s spokesperson has now called such remarks from Apple’s CEO “misleading.” The spokesperson also said that Cook’s statement was a “deliberately timed attempt to tarnish” the company’s reputation and that Qualcomm sticks to the original comments made by its CEO Steve Mollenkopf in November. Unfortunately, phishing scams aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. And, worse, some of them are pretty effective in their game to misguide potential victims. The newest scam was briefly profiled by TechCrunch on Friday, and it’s alarming at how sneaky it is at face value. As detailed in the original report, this new phishing scam is a voice call, and it’s disguised behind the guise of an actual Apple Support call. You can see it in action in the photo below. Apparently, Jody Westby got a call from what appeared to be Apple Support. The information that came along with the incoming number even said as much. The person told Westby to give Apple Support a call back, which was actually tied to an 866 number. USB-C promised a future where we could use a single connector and cable to charge our devices and transfer data between them. Sadly, in reality, USB-C has turned out to be a confusing mess with low-quality cables and chargers flooding the market. These chargers and cables end up damaging the host device by supplying them more power than they can handle. To solve these issues for good, the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) has announced the launch of USB Type-C Authentication Program. The program defines cryptographic-based authentication for USB Type-C chargers and devices. This will allow host devices to protect themselves for low-quality and incompatible USB-C chargers. It will also provide a higher level of security as host devices will be secure against USB-C chargers and cables which come with malicious malware-ridden firmware or hardware.
